My name is Vanessa and I am the founder of A Branch & Cord.
Aside from a maker, I am a wife and a mama to 3 kids and a stepmama to 2 big kids.
Originally from beautiful downtown Burbank, CA, I moved to the Portland, OR area in my mid 20's and I fell in love with the Pacific Northwest! Pre kids, you could find me working as an executive assistant at Warner Bros, local government or in the clean beauty industry. For the past 7 years, I've been a stay at home mom with young children but have always managed to work a side hustle in someway. I love to be busy!
In March of 2020, while pregnant with our 3rd and at the start of the pandemic, I decided I wanted to try making a macrame piece for our home and not having a clue where to start, I purchased a kit online. I found the process natural and satisfying to complete. I posted a picture to my social media and the next thing I knew, I had friends requesting hangings for their home. Many of my initial work was gifted to friends but not too long after people wanted to pay for my work! Before I knew it, I had orders coming in regularly and it was then I knew it was time to bring a business to life. After idea swapping with my husband, A Branch & Cord felt right and I went with it!
I enjoy making all types of pieces but I will say, I love creating rainbows the most. I had no idea they would take off like they have and I just love a stack of rainbows on my desk ready to go to their new homes. Rainbows genuinely make anyone happy and that just brings me so much joy!
I have been blown away by the response from family, friends and customers. Every day I'm truly fueled by the desire to bring beauty and joy to others lives through handcrafted fiber art. I work incredibly hard on every single piece and put all my love into each.
